1999 Martinelli Jackass Vineyards Zinfandel
Like a fresh field of summer fruits, with undertones of dark chocolate. Rich and massive, and either at or slightly over its peak. Alexi says like Uter (Simpsons) running in a garden, eating over ripe jammy fruits, juices running down his face. Pat says like a hot woman that slaps you in the face. The 17% alcohol is noticeable in the latter part of the finish. With a perfect steak from Capital Grille.

So actually, I really feel that the 2005 Martinelli Zinfandel was exactly like Uter running through the fields a la Sound of Music with blackberry jam splattered over his face. The more complex, yet much more overtly alcoholic, 1999 Zin is as if Uter were running carefree through a field but halfway through, a hot woman slapped him in the face and stopped him in his tracks. Preferred the softer 2005 version.
