2003 Castello di Ama Chianti Classico

Drank after the Ornellaia at San Domenico. Not fair to this wine. Lighter ruby. Very funky nose with truffle, herbs and flowers. Lovely on the palate. Medium bodied, nice persistent finish with smooth tannins. Solid and well made. Most interesting Chianti. $90 on the list at San Domenico.

Grade: B+

So, do you like Ornellaia 2003 better than this Chianti? Wasn't the first a little bit too ripe, maybe too much?

Yes, I liked the 2003 Ornellia more. To me it had better overall expression. It bordered on too much ripeness, but in the end it's charm won me over. It was not a pure fruit bomb- there was lots going on. I'm a bigger fan of this wine than most critics.

Love this wine. I honeymooned in Tuscany last year and actually went to the store selling the wine because the Castello was closed. Just had a bottle for our anniversary.
