2004 Palazzo Napa

Make friends with a knowledgeable person at your local liquor store. That is how I found this wine, and many other good wines. As a test, tell the person the name of the best wine you've ever had. Describe the qualities that made it amazing. The right person will have tried almost all wine in the shop, or will know the wine because of the producer/ importer, etc. They will send you home with several wines to try, that somehow relate to the qualities you described. You should love all, if the person has done their job.

I made friends with Phil at Columbus Circle Liquors. He recommended this wine based on many bottles in my cellar, including Shafer Hillside Select and Chateau Lafite. Excellent steak wine. Big, juicy and complex. Cherries, spice, cigar box and long finish. Slightly gritty tannins tell me this needs time in the cellar. Thomas Keller had something to do with this wine.

Grade: A-

I love it when I find a wine supplier I trust and connect with, they just come up with such great recommendations that you'd pass by otherwise.
