2005 Domaine Georges Vernay Syrah

Does not taste at all like a generic syrah. This has tons of personality, and can be used as a ringer in a Côte Rôtie tasting. Very compelling nose, with gun flint, green veggies, and wet dirt. Then a nice presence on the palate. Strong sense of place, with many strange (carrots, melons, spinach, pencil) but harmonious flavors. Certainly worth a try, this one is recommended. I drank it with roasted turkey, mac and cheese, and garlic green beans.

Retail $19.99. Tastes like at least $40.

Grade B+
