2005 Château de Puligny-Montrachet Monthélie (blanc)

A pretty burst of flavor surrounded by a lean, tart, svelte package. This wine is an good entry level white burgundy, that has similarity on several levels to the higher-end examples. It's got barely ripe peach, minerals, and a saltiness that all works well together. Nice finish too. For all its charms, there's something sharp in the finish that detracts. This is not a big wine, more like an accompaniment. It will work well with almost any food, from fish to spicy, to chicken and pork. It is a decent value, but I liked the red better. Retail $35, grade: B+.
