2006 Pyramid Valley Pinot Noir Eaton Family Vineyard

We enjoyed the Pyramid Calvert vineyard last evening so much, that I choose to open another vineyard designate from the same producer, also from 2006. In general, the Eaton Vineyard has the same high level of quality. This wine is a little lighter and reminds me more of red fruits, where the Calvert had more dark fruits.

Here's another burgundian clone which would fare will in a blind, young premier cru tasting (with the competition at 2-3X the price). There a wild, raw bloody beef character against an outstanding balanced blend of wild tiny ripe strawberries, raspberries, and pomegranates. The finish is excellent; both long and pure. I'm inspired. New Zealand is capable of making pinot noir to compete against the best from France, California and Oregon. We drank this with steak and salmon and it rocked. Retail $40, grade: A.
