A quiet night, with friends

I am so lucky. On May 20th, I sat down for a casual dinner with friends, and drank the following wine:

2002 Boillot Corton Charlemagne. Mineral laced apple juice and lemon custard. It's got incredible acids, and is extremely long and smooth. It will gather steam as it ages. Hold in a cold cellar. We drank by itself, waiting to order. Retail $150, grade A.

1989 Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Spatlese AP #17. Musty, moldy and even more apple juice (pointed out by Seth). The mold gets more lush against a crab ravioli. Full mouth feel. And its got the requisite petrol. Interesting and strange. Not available at retail, current auction value, about $120, grade A-

1997 Trimbach Clos ste Hune. Stony mineral goodness in a shy and closed package. Complete but probably too young as there's an edge. And a little simple at this level. Retail $150, grade B+

1989 Mouton. Awesome dark purple with a compelling minty aroma. Delicious classic Bordeaux with a lovely cedar. Very long and full. Creamy well balanced. Great wine but slightly high acids compared to their best vintages. A treat. Try it if you can. Retail $300, grade A.

2002 Sine Qua Non Mr K the Strawman. This wine is literally half sugar. It is also a work of art. Jill says like an angel food cake that stands up in your mouth. JulieAnne says like the color of my hair when I was born. JulieAnne and Jill both think it is pornographic. Adley says like a fermented honey. Like one of my honeys. Of all of my honeys like Colorado star clover honey. It is like liquified sage filled honey with a monsterous multi minute finish and so sexy. To me it is Wine of the Night, which is incredible in this lineup. Burnt brown sugar and cloves. A delight and a total desert on its own. Semi solid. Perfect in this capacity. Retail $150 (half bottle), grade: A+
