2006 Saxum Broken Stones

Saxum again proves to be one of my favorite producers from California. I've been on their mailing list for about 2 years, and buy all I can. You can sign up here: Saxum Site. Even though there is a wait, do yourself a favor and sign up. I paid $45 from their list, and the lowest price nationally is $60. This wine is a beauty, both powerful and inspiring. It is a Rhone style blend (Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre), and could be a top Chateauneuf de Pape. The color is a meduum velvety purple. Awesome aromas of fresh flowers, pine forest, earth and cherry liquor. Simply delicious, elegant mouth feel with nuanced and huge crushed black pepper, fig jam, rare roast beef, and an almost shockingly long finish. Even more impressive is that this is not one of their more expensive wines. Grade: A.

I too loved this wine, it was my first time having one. I found a lot of graphite, and thought this helped keep the dense fruit more in balance . Great notes.
