2005 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Champans

Some of the wine I open is too young but develops into something in the glass after a few hours. Not here- do not open a bottle for at least 5 more years. This is no where close to ready to drink. It is like I got a new toy, but I can't get the wrapper off. I know it is amazing, but can only see a glimpse. Incredible wild aromas of the forest; pine, sap and moss. Hard, sharp and tannic palate but in the center there's a bright core of spicy tomato laced cherry. Gigantic, awesome, breathtaking finish. This will be stunning some day. Now it is pure potential. At this price, however, doesn't feel like a great value. Still, I'd love for someone to invite me to try theirs in 10 years. Retail $125, grade: A-.
