1997 Lamarche Vosne-Romanee Malconsorts
There's a lesson here about how I buy wine. I got this from one of the many mailing lists I get. This time, I got an email about a close out special from Wine Connection in Pound Ridge, NY. Lots of 97 and 98 burgundies were insanely inexpensive. This wine for example is not available at retail. However, when I search for any Lamarche Malconsorts, from any vintage, the best price is $80. I paid $24 for this bottle, and it is absolutely rocking at this price. When you find a wine store you trust, sign up for their mailing list, then act fast when you get an email like this! This pretty looking wine is crimson ruby. On the nose, there are mature aromas of old books, wet fall leaves, and mushrooms. Then acidic and lively, mossy, earthy and dirty flavors dominate the palate. The finish is a comfort but dies fairly quickly. If you own this wine, drink up, it will start to decline. The fruit is certainly in the background now. At my price, grade: A. At $80, grade: B.
