Night of 2 great American Qs
We drank the 2006 Quilceda Creek Cabernet vs. the 2005 Quintessa. At first the Quintessa was ahead with its smooth, sleek, pine and cigar scented qualities and very smooth finish. The group strongly favored this wine, but I was concerned about a short finish. Over the 2 hours, the Quilceda started to pull ahead. At first it was jammy and quite tannic (everyone said not smooth), then it got better and better. I've been wondering why Parker and Tanzer haven't reviewed it yet, and and still not sure. Its great, and will continue to improve in the bottle. Then I opened a 2006 Saxum James Barry Rocket Block, which put both to shame with its huge, viscus, perfectly balanced delicious massive 2 minute finish.
