2001 Beaux Freres Pinot Noir Beaux Frerers Vineyard

At first, many interesting flavors but lacking some primary fruits. Then after an hour opens up, and shows its stuff. This wine has many years of growth ahead. Review is after 2 hours. Pure, complex flavors, like an outstanding burgundy. Very precise with mushrooms, earth and spicy, sour cherries. Changes after every sip. Nice, 20-30 [...]

2004 Kilikanoon Grenache Prodigal

Big, brawny and manly. Deep and dark. Concentrated aromas of charcoal, forest floor, blueberry pie and petrol give way to a concentrated flavor profile with gobs of chocolate, dark purple fruits and smooth tannins. Luscious, but somewhat one dimensional. This is not a wine that changes with every sip. Still, it is well made and [...]

2003 Kistler Vine Hill Chardonnay

Golden yellow. Minerals, stones and sunshine on the intriguing nose. The palate wavers between butter, mixed nuts ,pineapple, must, and orange rind. Then a long, smooth 60+ second finish. This wine is masculine, and drinks more like a red wine. Again Kistler proves to be one of my favorite producers. With crab cocktail and wedge [...]

1999 Martinelli Jackass Vineyards Zinfandel

Like a fresh field of summer fruits, with undertones of dark chocolate. Rich and massive, and either at or slightly over its peak. Alexi says like Uter (Simpsons) running in a garden, eating over ripe jammy fruits, juices running down his face. Pat says like a hot woman that slaps you in the face. The [...]

2005 Martinelli Gewürztraminer Dry Select Martinelli Vineyard

Lovely pale gold. Complex aromas with hints of lemon oil, flowers and wet stones. Then lots going on in the expressive palate and finish. Keeps changing, but very persistent and viscus. A pleasure to drink. Buy some! Martinelli makes many outstanding wines. With Chinese food. Grade: A www.whatwouldmikeydrink.com

2002 AF Gros Vosne-Romanee Clos De La Fontaine

Dark ruby red. Mushroom funk, violets on the nose. Really smells like a great burgundy. Feminine and very floral, with sour cherry, wild raspberry, mushroom, earth, smoky lardons, and a very strong sense of place. 50 second expressive finish. Decanted on open, and at its best after 2.5 hours. This wine is still an infant. [...]

2000 Domaine Henri Perrot-Minot Mazoyeres Chambertin Vielles Vignes

Great wines always have long finishes. This is a good case in point. Breeding clearly is superb from this wonderful grand cru site in Gevery Chambertin, and it shows in this wine. Deep and dark, complex aromas of truffles, mushrooms and earth. Sappy, spicy fruits glide through the palate with a very long (60 seconds [...]

2005 Ojai Syrah Santa Barbara County

Opened this next. This is what I want in a syrah. Inky purple. Juicy nose of freshly ground pepper and wild blackberries. Full bodied, delicious, drinking very well right now. Excellent value- tastes like $50+.Grade: A www.whatwouldmikeydrink.com

2004 Domaine Jean-Claude Marsanne Crozes-Hermitage

Lighter, more feminine syrah. Pretty, earthy aromas of mushrooms, crushed black pepper, and slightly under-ripe berries. Medium bodied, nice terrior, but fruit hides behind the acids and tannins. Not the biggest fan. Grade: C+ www.whatwouldmikeydrink.com
