The heat of the 2003 vintage in burgundy trumped the winemaker and vineyard. This is jucy and quite tasty, but not especially distinctive. Spicy pinot earthy fruit. Dark. Rich milk chocolate flavors. Very nice mouth full of pinot, but could be from anywhere. Not currently available, but probably would be $40, grade: B+ www.whatwouldmikeydrink.com

2005 Copain Syrah Thompson
Dark and serious color. Interesting aromas of stewed mineral plums. Jill says sprightly, young and energetic with good energy. Cloves, cardamom pods, and licorice. Long, smooth finish. This producer continues to impress me with a fair quality to value ratio. Retail $40, grade: A-. www.whatwouldmikeydrink.com
2003 Pio Cesare Barolo Ornato
It’s been a lot of fun drinking this wine over the past few hours. It has gone through several personalities. At first, Jill says silky. I say nebbiolo reduction. Drinking great now, unlike most barolo at age 6, more a function of the ripe vintage than the producer. Really expands through the palate with roses [...]
2003 Grivot Nuites St Georges Roncieres
At first poopy nose then blows off to an enchanted forest of mushrooms. Dense and masculine this is a beauty. Alcohol comes out on the finish. After an hour, the spicy cherry comes out, with furious tannins. Shows more vintage then location. Still, yummy. Excellent, under the radar wine producer. Drinking well now and should [...]

Some gun flint. Fresh and clean. Refreshing. Nice balance. Retail $25, grade: A- Wine #2 was served blind. Like [...]
