2001 Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne-Montrachet Grandes Ruchottes

Dark golden.  Looks like a great aged burgundy.   Funky nose of ripe woodsy mangoes, nectarine and peaches.  Overpowering oaky palate, without enough balancing fruit.  This is a nice glass of wine, to be sure, but the delicacy this 9 year old is missing.    Strong, severe finish.  Serious wine.  Drink up, I do not think this [...]

2008 Oyster Bay Pinot Noir

I have had some very interesting New Zealand pinots.  Not sure if that’s why I bought this, or if someone, somewhere liked it, but it is mediocre.  Not horrendous, but I’d rather drink a good beer.  Very light.    Aromas are interesting cherries.  Palate is sharp.  I’m expecting a silky smoothness from Pinot that is missing.     [...]

2006 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese

Very pale golden.  Outrageous aromas of ripe petrol infused peaches, mangoes, and wet stone.  Sweet, pure and clean palate.  This has a real sense of place.  Jill says candied orange peel and ginger.  Refreshing and delicious.  I bought 3 bottles on release for $29 each.  Looks like now it is about $50.     I’d suggest waiting [...]

2002 Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses

At first it seemed premox (premature oxidization).  We really wanted it to be good.  We waited, and other flavors came out, but it was certainly not right.  What a shame.    02 should be too young!  No grade.

From June 19 Like a golden sunshine. Looks like old yquem.  Perfect riesling aromas of peatchy petrol. Incredibly complex and delish.  Super long with perfect balance.   Resonates.  A burgundy like experience with terrior and its own personality. Jill says like sucking a butterscotch. Josh says still acidity. Grade: A+  I’m thrilled to have a [...]

2008 Sine Qua Non Stars and Stripes

From July 3.  Spritzy at first.   Decanted and 30 min solves it. Looks like an 04 red burgundy. Seriousness starts on the nose.   Fruit patch.   Alcohol. Rich full palate. Juicy strawberry melon and little spicy peppercorn.   Very long finish.   Thanks don!!  Perfect july 4 treat. Grade a.   Gary says [...]

2004 Frederic Magnien Echezeaux

There’s hope for 2004 red burgundy!   This is a vintage most of my wine friends detest, and until tonight, I agreed.   There was a lady bug issue, resulting in a green, acidic streak in most of the wines.      I’m thinking now that over time these will prove earthy funky and good, as long as the [...]
