2007 Chateau de Paraza Minervois cuvee speciale

This is a $10 wine, so I’m not expecting much. It has a nice color, and some decent and some strange aromas. There’s plums but also a rubber smell. The texture is pretty nice, like a more expensive wine, yet Jill calls the strange flavor bologna, and I agree. Overall, not the worst, but I [...]

2006 sine qua non raven Grenache

Utterly spellbinding. Opaque velvet. Fresh cut spring flowers, lavender, and Asian spice nose. Long plush singular palate with crushed black pepper, a decadent full powerful blend of red and black fruit. This is amazing. A plus.

2000 Vincent Dauvissat Chablis “Les Preuses”

Pale green tinged golden.    A most interesting, and deep nose.  Trent says brown butter.    I get lime, fresh cut grass,  minerals and saline, like the ocean on a windy day.    This was somewhat closed on the palate yesterday, but after being open a day it is screaming.  Lemon curd, raw oyster, seaweed, and salty briny [...]

1982 Chateau Canon

Right bank 1982, rocking!  This has been open 24 hours and it is still outstanding.    Slight bricking on the edges but still a healthy ruby.  Very compelling aromas of plums, and cigar box.   Lots of cedar on the rich, velvet, new saddle leather palate.  Long, harmonious finish.    Amazing that this wine is almost 30 years [...]

2009 Turley Zinfandel Juvenile

This is the lowest priced Turley wine, at $20 direct from the vineyard. It is totally delicious. Inky purple. Candied figs, menthol and lots of alcohol make up the nose. Then huge and spicy with chili pepper, stewed fruits and watermelon jolly rancher. This is a very big wine, but it works. Great value, beats [...]

2005 Faiveley Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Porêts Saint-Georges

This has shut down a bit since the last bottle I drank in 2009.  However after 2 hours it is quite nice.  Dark ruby.    Incredible dark aromas, with coffee, chocolate and forest.   Huge palate, with tons of depth but all wrapped up on itself.   Raspberries, plums, and very masculine.  Very clear fruit.  Tannic, but wonderfully [...]

1988 Lamarche Vosne-Romanee Malconsorts Premier Cru

Now this is interesting.  Smells like moldy old books, with some minty pine.   A whole universe of flavors ranging from racy blackberries,  damp earth, with an undertone of black fruit flavors.  A somewhat astringent ’88 finish, but full of character.  This works well, unlike the 99 beaux frerers we drank before it, and could continue [...]

1999 Beaux Freres Pinot Noir Beaux Freres Vineyard

I drank this wine 8 years ago in Portland Oregon, and at the time it was great.    Its now over the hill, but still OK.   Light ruby.  Interesting mushroom and earthy aromas.    Some pine.  The nose is quite good actually.    However, the palate is acidic and a little tart.  The fruit is mostly gone or [...]
