1998 Paolo Scavino Barolo Carobric

Youthful ruby.   Incredible truffle, earthy laced plum aromas.    Then classic Barolo dried roses, tar and bitter chocolate palate.  Its got a sappy quality I usually get from great burgundy.  Really spreads across the broad and long finish.    This is a real beast and a treat.    Starting to drink now, but will age a long, long [...]

2004 Dugat-Py Gevrey Chambertin Vielles Vignes

Very dark.   Mostly interesting, yet some strange aromas.    There’s nice warm earth, but a cold green streak running away with it.    It does have the magic menthol forrest aromas I love from Gevrey.    Full, rich and aggressive palate.  Lots of depth, and great pinot sap and balance, but the nasty green streak [...]

2005 Turley Zindandel Ueberroth Vineyard

Dark velvet purple.  Just decadent aromas of plums, cherry jolly rancher, and a little kick of cayenne.  Huge, thick, viscous palate.  Waves of flavor.  So full and easy to drink, but what’s amazing here it is really has a sense of place.  Quite rare in a wine this big.  I think this is my favorite [...]

2008 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Blanc

Pale golden.   Great aromas of lychee, pineapple, brioche, and lemon.  Then a touch of wood as a frame for a deceptive depth with a playful feel.    Excellent balance and harmony.  It doesn’t have the staying power, the richness, nor the distinctiveness, but somehow this reminds me of a great Batard Montrachet.  Its less mineral/ [...]
